Baguio Hosts National Film Festival

Baguio City –After initial coordination with local officials, all systems and groundwork are already set for another big event in this upland city. The Film Development Council of the Philippines according to City Tourism Officer Benny Alhambra has chosen the summer capital as this year’s venue of Sineng Pambansa. Initial meetings and preparatory measures including a signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with Mayor Mauricio Domogan and FDCP Chairman Briccio G. Santos were already finalized Alhambra added.
An entity attached to the Office of The President, the FDCP together with the Baguio Tourism Office, Department of Tourism and SM City-Baguio has set the launching of the film festival on March 25 at the SM theatre featuring selected films that will be screened until March 27.
Alhambra added that the film festival will also include a film workshop, press briefing and recognition night with guests and invited filmmakers.
During the festival’s opening night at SM Cinema on March 25, FDCP Chairman Santos will give the opening remarks followed by a keynote address by Mayor Domogan before the screening of films and acknowledgment of participating filmmakers.
On March 26, the film festival according to Alhambra will also have a recognition night at the Hill Station in Casa Vallejo wherein the filmmakers will be conferred with plaques of appreciation for their support in promoting Filipino culture and values through film.
With the FDCP’s mandate to provide assistance to visionaries who want to push the boundaries of moviemaking as an art and way of life, the organizers are hopeful that the film fest will generate support from the community in promoting the growth and development of the local film industry.
Interested individuals who want to attend the film workshop can submit their names and contact information to Art Tibaldo at cnatelevision@gmail.com for inclusion since said activity can only accommodate a limited number of participants Alhambra added. Cordillera News Agency release
